2026-2027 Pre-enrolment and registration update
Thanks to all the families who pre-enrolled before the March 25 deadline!
We had more requests than available space, so a lottery process will be held for new students in the following grades:
Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3, Grade 5, Grade 6, Grade 8
Grade 9 (there is no lottery, but the grade is now full for 2026-2027).
If your child is entering one of these grades, you will be notified about the results by April 17, 2026.
For all other grades, your child has been accepted, and we will not be contacting you.
INFORMATION ABOUT THE 2026-2027 LOTTERY PROCESS
To help address enrolment growth, Svend Hansen School has a lottery process for new students enrolling for the 2026–2027 school year. This only impacts new resident* students living in the designated attendance area who wish to enrol in a grade that does not have space in planned classes. Students who are currently enrolled at Svend Hansen School or who wish to enrol in a grade with space in planned classes are not impacted.
*A resident student of Edmonton Public Schools has at least one parent or legal guardian living in Edmonton who is not Roman Catholic..
If you are NEW to Edmonton Public Schools or Registering for Kindergarten for 2026-2027:

LOTTERY PROCESS ONCE PRE-ENROLMENT CLOSES
Pre-enrolment closed at 4 p.m. on March 25. No later than April 17, 2026 the school will call the families of new resident students about the lottery results.
- If selected in the lottery, new resident students can attend the school.
- If not selected in the lottery, new resident students can:
- attend their overflow designated school or choose to enrol at a Level 1 school with space in planned classes (siblings may also enrol at the overflow designated school), and,
- request to be placed on a callback list if spaces open up until the last school day before pre-enrolment begins next school year.
ENROLLING AT AN OVERFLOW DESIGNATED SCHOOL OR OTHER DIVISION SCHOOL
We will help resident families who were not selected in the lottery process enrol at their overflow designated school,
Laurel East families can attend Weinlos School for Kindergarten to Grade 6 and Kate Chegwin School for Grades 7 to 9
Laurel West families can attend Daly Grove School for Kindergarten to Grade 6 and T.D. Baker School for Grades 7 to 9.
If families choose to go to another Edmonton public school, they will need to call or email their preferred school to see if there is space in planned classes.
Siblings will also be able to attend the overflow designated school, but if families choose to go to another Division school with space in planned classes, siblings are not guaranteed to attend.
REGISTRATION AFTER MARCH 25, 2026
Resident students who move into a Level 3 school’s attendance area for the 2026–27 school year after pre-enrolment closes on March 25 can be added to the bottom of the callback list. Students can attend their overflow designated school, another Edmonton Public school with space in planned classes, or remain at their current school.
TRANSPORTATION TO OVERFLOW DESIGNATED SCHOOLS
Yellow bus service to Weinlos (Laurel East) and Daly Grove (Laurel West) will be available for eligible K–6 students. Bus fees will apply. Students who require yellow bus service must apply before June 1, 2026. Important information and application forms can be found on the Applying for Yellow Bus Service page on epsb.ca.
Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) is the preferred transportation method for junior high and high school students; however, if ETS is not available, eligible students attending their overflow designated school may be able to apply for yellow bus service.
