LOTTERY PROCESS AT SVEND HANSEN SCHOOL 2025-2026
As a Level 3 school, Svend Hansen School will continue to have a lottery process in place for new resident attendance area students enrolling at the school for the 2025–26 school year. This will not impact current students who attend the school.
The school will not accept new registrations from families in the attendance area if the student is not a resident student of Edmonton Public Schools. In most cases, a resident student of Edmonton Public Schools has at least one parent or legal guardian living in Edmonton who is not Roman Catholic.
Resident students who aren’t selected through the lottery process can attend their overflow designated school.
Laurel East families can attend Weinlos School for Kindergarten to grade 6 and Kate Chegwin School for grades 7 to 9 and Laurel West families can attend Daly Grove School for Kindergarten to grade 6 and T.D. Baker School for grades 7 to 9 , a Level 1 Division school with space in planned classes, or remain at their current school, if applicable.
SIBLINGS OF CURRENT STUDENTS ATTENDING SVEND HANSEN SCHOOL
New resident students in the attendance area who have a sibling returning to the school next year will get priority but are not guaranteed to attend.
MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE LOTTERY PROCESS
Watch the Growth Control Model video for an overview of the lottery process. You can also read more about the lottery process on epsb.ca. If you have any other questions, please contact the school at 587-489-4724.
After pre-enrolment closes
- If the number of new resident students is higher than the limit set for a specific grade, the lottery process will be used. This only applies to new students.
- Division administration will conduct the lottery on behalf of the schools.
- Level 3 schools will notify families about the lottery results in April.
- Resident students who do not get into the Level 3 school through the lottery process can attend their overflow designated school, another Level 1 Division school with space in planned classes, or remain at their current school.
- Siblings who are resident students may also enrol at the designated overflow school.
- Resident students who do not get into the Level 3 school through the lottery process can be put on a callback list if they wish.
- Resident students who register or move into the school’s attendance area after pre-enrolment closes (March 19) may be added to the bottom of the callback list if they wish. They can attend the overflow designated school, another Level 1 Division school with space in planned classes, or choose to remain at their current school.
- If spaces open up at a Level 3 school, they will be offered to students on the callback list until the last school day before pre-enrolment begins next school year.
- Resident students who register with the Edmonton Catholic School Division or another division are eligible for a callback before the first day of the 2025–26 school year.
REGISTRATION 2024-2025
For the 2024 - 2025 school year, Svend Hansen School is full in planned classes from Kindergarten to Grade 8 in the regular program. For Grade 9, we remain open to resident attendance area students only. Resident students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have newly moved into the school’s attendance areas for the regular program will now have access to the overflow designated schools only.
A resident student of Edmonton Public Schools has at least one parent or legal guardian living in Edmonton who is not Roman Catholic. Non-resident students can enrol in another Division school with space in planned classes.
REGISTERING AT AN OVERFLOW DESIGNATED SCHOOL OR OTHER DIVISION SCHOOL
Svend Hansen will help resident families who were not selected in the lottery process to register at their overflow designated school. Laurel East families can attend Weinlos School for Kindergarten to grade 6 and Kate Chegwin School for grades 7 to 9 and Laurel West families can attend Daly Grove School for Kindergarten to grade 6 and T.D. Baker School for grades 7 to 9 . If families choose to go to another Edmonton Public school, they will need to call or email their preferred school to see if there is space in planned classes.
Siblings will also be able to attend the overflow designated school, but if families choose to go to another Division school with space in planned classes, siblings are not guaranteed to attend.
REGISTRATION AFTER PRE-ENROLMENT CLOSES
New resident students who newly move into a Level 3 school’s attendance area for the 2024–25 school year after pre-enrolment closes on March 19 can be added to the bottom of the callback list for 2025-26. Students can attend their overflow designated school, another Edmonton Public school with space in planned classes, or remain at their current school, if applicable.
TRANSPORTATION TO OVERFLOW DESIGNATED SCHOOLS
Yellow bus service to Weinlos (Laurel East) and Daly Grove ( Laurel West) will be available for eligible students. Bus fees will apply.
